How Much Titebond Drywall Adhesive Per Sheet. If you are going to use glue and screws to hang drywall on the wall, the glue is applied to the wall studs. A 3 inch bead at the bottom, middle, and top of where the sheet lands on each stud. One drywall screw bottom midle and top of board at each stud.
If you are hanging drywall on the wall, drywall glue can allow you to use less drywall screws. With a 1/4" wide bead of glue on each stud you only need a screw on each edge of the sheet. You can put one in the center of the board or use a scrap block of drywall screwed in the center of every other stud temperately against the stud. Titebond drywall adhesive holds the drywall so well that the screws can be removed after the glue has dried.
Most construction adhesives such as titebond have a coverage guide on the label. When we are using glue, we go through around a full 28 ounce tube per 8 sheets applying a 1/4" bead to each stud. That would mean each sheet needs 0.125 tubes of adhesive. A standard 250 sheet home would use around 31 tubes of adhesive, each tube containing 28 ounces.
Drywall glue eliminates drywall screw pops by holding the drywall against the stud. Glue with screws provides a solid connection of drywall board and framing that many modular home builders use it on there drywall due to road vibration.
When using drywall adhesive , apply it to every stud and then place your board against the wall. Now screw all around the perimeter of the sheet. Use small scraps of drywall and screw the small scrap pieces every other stud in the center of the sheet. When the glue is dry the next day remove the scrap pieces and you have hardly anything in the center of the board to hide with mud. That is a trick we use. You can also put one screw in the center of each stud and leave it permanently.
A 2-3 inch bead at the top, middle, and bottom of the drywall board holds very well and a 28 ounce tube of titebond drywall adhesive will last for about 7-10 sheets of drywall.
